
Joey Zhao, MFA candidate in ceramics, presents his thesis exhibition, November 4-6, at the University Museum's Mitchell Gallery. A reception will be held on Wednesday, November 4 from 4-6 pm.

Ken Burnside, BFA candidate in painting, will exhibit his work, "Plein Air," at Central Showcase at Realty Central, 1825 Murdale Shopping Center, with an opening reception on November 6, 2009 from 4-6 p.m. The show opened October 19 and runs through November 28.
The Graduate Association of Painters and Printmakers of the School of Art and Design at SIUC are proud to announce their first Juried Exhibit in Paducah, Kentucky. Naturally and Artificially Flavored represents the graduate students of the Ceramics, Glass, Metals-Blacksmithing, Sculpture, and the Two-Dimensional program areas. Freda Fairchild, an artist of Paducah, selected the works that are exhibited. Naturally and Artificially Flavored will be held at the Heart of Healing Gallery, 233 North 7th Street, Paducah, KY, from November 13 -December 11, 2009. The opening reception will be held November 13th, 5-8pm and is free and open to the public. There will be food, beverage, music, and an abundance of art!

Soony Seo, BFA candidate in 2D, showcases her work in Art Alley, located on the second floor of the Student Center. Her exhibition, "The Little Life," will include a reception on October 9 from 5-7 pm. She also has a show in Vergette Gallery November 2-6, "The Gateway to Fun."

Corin Perez, MFA candidate in 2D, will exhibit her work For Alanis (pictured left) in the group show, "Interpretations of the Figure 2009," at the University of Indianapolis, Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center. The work is on exhibit through October 30.

Communication design student Jordan Sparrow won 3rd Place in the Addidas Finger Painting Competition. Jordan's winning entry of Addidas Founder Adi Dassler (pictured right) and his profile page can be viewed at http://isthenewblack.deviantart.com.

Industrial design student Ted Peterson is one of 3 students to win top honors in this years Interzinc student design competition. The goal is to use zinc as the main product material and to create a concept that emphasizes the benefits of zinc. Ted’s concept, a human powered door closer (pictured left) that generates and stores DC electricity, was chosen as one of 3 first place winners along with entries from Purdue Univ. and the Univ. of Oregon. Ted’s faculty advisor on the project is Assistant Professor Aaron Scott. Ted will receive a $2000 cash prize and each faculty sponsor will receive a $1000 prize, which Prof. Scott will donate to the design program. Ivana Popov, MFA 2D candidate, has work in a solo video installation in Serbia. The review of her work is found in, "Ivana Popov: Between Reality And The Working of The Heart."

Hyunsung Cho, MFA Glass candidate, received Best in Show in the juried group show, "Breakthrough Ideas in Global Glass," showing from July 10-October 10, 2009, at The Ohio State University Urban Arts Space and Hawk Galleries. The show features the work of 43 international artists who create with a conceptual and working engagement in glass.
Holly Gilmore, senior in art history, presented her conference paper, "The Art and Life of Mary L. Lovins," at the Illinois Women Artists Symposium at Illinois State University on April 18, 2009. The paper was based on her senior thesis of the same title.
