Sandra Charlson graduated from the School of Art and Art History at the University of Iowa, with an M.A. in Art History in 1988.  Since coming to SIUC in 1989, she has taught courses in 19th century art, American art, ancient art, mythology in art and Introduction to Art History.

Currently, she teaches Native North American Art, Pre-Columbian Art, African Art and Art of Tribal Cultures.  The focus of her courses lies in the indigenous use of raw materials in fibers, ceramics, metals and sculpture.

Sandra enjoys interaction with her students both in and out of the classroom.  She has served on many B.F.A. and M.F.A. committees and as faculty adviser for several students in independent study coursework.
